For the past decade, I have studied, taught, thought, and written about American Studies. The United States of America fascinate me. I love the history, figures, struggles, imperfections, and promise of my country.
A few months ago, I started thinking about all the stories that had led up to mine. In society where immigrants are so often disparaged and denied, I wanted to tell the story of how my ancestors who immigrated to what either was or would become the United States came to be here. I hope it will be a fascinating story that will challenge the ingrained assumption that my own "American-ness" is innate. I hope it will point the way towards how I can widen the path for others who wish to tread in the footsteps of my immigrant ancestors.
